_____/ 02.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS \__________________

The minimum system requirements needed to play this game are as
follows:

     - Windows 95
     - 16 megabytes of RAM
     - 5 megabytes of hard disk space (for the basic game)

The basic game only contains the files that are absolutely
necessary for playing the game; nearly all of the pictures have
been removed from the game to reduce the size of the download
file and to ease bandwidth. This game has now been written so
that pictures are NOT needed to play the game.

Various areas around the Internet have the card and character
pictures available for download. Depending on how many of the
character and card pictures that you have, the size of the game
can increase to as much as 70 megabytes.

_____/ 03.0 INTRODUCTION AND SETUP \__________________

----------| The World of Yu-Gi-Oh!

This game is based on the best-selling comic and animated series,
called Yu-Gi-Oh! The game allows you to play the Duel Monsters
card game against many characters from the series, plus some
original characters that you have not seen.

There are over thirty characters in this game, including secret
characters that are unlocked by completing certain tasks. As
well, there are over a thousand cards that have been included in
the game for you to use. There are also a number of original
cards created specifically for this game that do NOT exist in the
real card game.

----------| Setting Up The Game

Installing the game is simple.

1. Create a folder on your hard drive.
2. Extract the two basic ZIP files to that folder.
3. Go to the folder and double-click on the Yugioh.exe file. The
program will begin.

If this is your first time running the program, you will see a
message box, stating that the Card and Character Pictures have
not been initialized yet. Click OK, and you will be taken to the
Setup menu.

In the Setup menu, click the Initialize Card Pictures button and
wait for it to complete its process. The text box will display
the pictures that you do not have for the game. Don't panic if
there are few card pictures, or none at all; the game can be
played WITHOUT pictures.

Next, click the Initialize Character Pictures button and wait for
it to complete its process. The text box will display the
pictures that you do not have for the game. Don't panic if there
are few character pictures, or none at all; the game can be
played WITHOUT pictures.

Click the OK button, and you will be taken to the Main Menu.

----------| Updating Your Game

Due to the nature of the program, there are many corrections that
are frequently made, and bugs that are fixed. Thus, updates to
the main program are created.

When an update is released, you will need to download it from the
PC Game Page. Then, simply extract the file to the folder that
you have the PC Game in. Overwrite any existing files.

If new card or character pictures are released in a new version,
once they are placed in your card_pic or char_pic folder where
the game is contained, you will need to enter the Setup Menu
again (from the Main Menu) and initialize the card and character
pictures again.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 04.0 THE MAIN MENU \__________________

The Main Menu is the main options area of the game. Here, you
can accomplish a variety of things.

----------| Start A New Game

Clicking this button allows you to start a new game.

----------| Continue A Saved Game

Clicking this button will allow you to continue a previously
saved game. Click the save game slot, and you will load your
progress from when you last saved it.

----------| About This Game

Clicking this button gives you a little bit of background
information on the game, including some "dos and don'ts."

----------| Setup

Clicking this button will take you to the Setup menu, where you
can check for the Card and Character Pictures.

----------| Quit

Clicking this button will exit the game.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 05.0 NEW GAME AND CONTINUING A GAME \__________________

There are two ways to pick up this game. Everyone will start a
new game at some point. Since the game cannot be finished in one
sitting, saving a game is a necessity. This allows you to
continue your progress at a later time.

----------| New Game

You will be greeted by Anzu Mazaki, Yugi's friend. She will ask
you for your name that you will use during the course of the
game.

After that, Anzu will ask you for a Reference. Do not confuse
this with a necessity for playing the game, such as a code key.
If you have played the game before, you may have been given a
Reference Code at some point. If you were given one, you can
enter it when Anzu asks you. If you are correct, a special card
will be added to you deck. REFERENCES ARE *NOT* NEED TO PLAY
THIS GAME.

You will then be given a random Starter Deck, and you will be
taken to the Main Map to truly begin the game.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 06.0 MAIN MAP \__________________

Whether you started a new game or continued, you will be taken to
the main map. Here is where you decide where to go and what to
do.

One of the noticeable items is that there are buttons called
"Stages." These are various areas of the game, and each area has
different Duelists that you can face off against. You will only
see one stage at first, but as you play the game, other stages
will appear. Click the appropriate stage that you want to go to,
and you will be taken there.

In addition to the stage buttons, you will also see a Card Shop
button. By clicking it, you will be taken to a shop where you
can purchase cards in the forms of singles, specials, or straight
from packs. You can also sell some of the excess cards that you
have no desire for. Though you will have access to only one shop
at the beginning of the game, another shop will appear as you
play through the game.

At the bottom of the Main Map are two buttons. The larger one,
called "Duelist Status," takes you to the Status Menu, where you
can check your progress, plus Save/Load games, and modify your
decks. The other button, "Quit Game," will take you back to the
Main Menu.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 07.0 DUELIST STATUS \__________________

The Duelist Status screen is where you can view your current
progress within this game.

In the upper-left of the status form is your Duelist Level. You
will see two numbers, separated by a "slash" (ex: 2000/4000).
The number on the left is the total number of Duel Points that
you have accrued thus far. The number to the right is the number
of total Duel Points that you need to achieve to be promoted to
the next Duelist Level.

Just below your Duelist Level is your current Duel Points. Do
not confuse this with Total Duel Points. Your current Duel
Points are used to purchase cards and packs from the Card Shops.

To the upper-right is the total number of Duels that you have
been in.

Right below it is your record, with the results of the duels that
you have been in, in win / loss / draw order.

Near the center of the status box is a display of the current
abilities that you have. These abilities are based on your
Duelist Level, and will fluctuate during the game.

Below your ability list are four buttons.

- SAVE: This allows you to save your current status.
- LOAD: This button loads a saved game. This is to save a few
moments so that you don't have to go back to the Main Menu to
load a game.
- DECKS: Clicking this button takes you to where you can create
and edit your decks.
- CLOSE: This button closes the Status Menu and takes you back to
the Main Map.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 08.0 CARD SHOPS \__________________

Duelists cannot often survive on their own, and this is where the
card shops come into play. There are a total of two card shops
in this game: one is immediately available to the player, and the
second is available after playing the game for an extended period
of time. Both shops are fundamentally the same, but have a
different selection of cards.

When entering a shop, you have a choice of five actions, which
are listed on the right side of the Shop's Menu.

----------| Buy Pack

When clicking this button, you will be taken to a menu of the
packs available at that shop. Click the pack that you want, and
after confirming your purchase, your Current Duel Points will be
deducted, and the cards will be added to your collection. After
purchasing a pack, a lists of the cards that were in the pack
will pop up.

----------| Buy Single

You will be taken to a menu with a list of single cards. Cycle
through the list. Click the "Buy" button to make a purchase.

----------| Buy Special

At different intervals during the game, the Card Shops will begin
to offer "Specials." These specials are groups of related cards,
for a combined price. Check the shops often to see which
specials they may have.

----------| Sell Cards

You will be taken to a menu of which cards are currently in your
collection. Cycle through the cards (or click the picture of the
card in question to search through your collection), and click
the "Sell" button. The card will be removed from your
collection, and you will be given a number of Duel Points equal
to the "Cost" listed for the card. Please note that selling
cards only increases your Current Duel Points; it does not apply
to Total Duel Points. In other words, selling cards will not
increase your Duelist Level.

----------| Leave

Clicking this button allows you to leave the shop menu. You will
be taken back to the Main Map.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 09.0 MAKING A DECK \__________________

When you first start the game, you will be given a randomized
Starter Deck. Though there are a few criteria that define the
groupings of what you get, the cards you get each time you begin
a game are random.

Unless you are given a terribly good deck when you start out, you
will need to modify it at some point. Some cards are better than
others, thus you will need to add and remove cards to survive
during your duels.

Clicking "Decks" from the Duelist Status Menu will take you to
the Deck Screen.

In the upper-right is the deck's name. You are free to change it
to whatever you wish. Below it is a list of the statistics of
your deck, which (from top to bottom) informs you of: the slot of
the deck that the current deck occupies (out of three), the
current number of cards in the deck, the number of Monster cards
in the deck, the number of Magic cads in the deck, and the number
of Trap cards in the deck.

To the left of the menu is the list of what is currently in your
deck.

In the center is a picture of a card in your collection that you
have selected. By clicking on this picture, you can search your
collection for a card of a particular name. Right below the
picture are two buttons: "<<" and ">>". These two buttons cycle
left and right through your current collection.

UNLIKE THE REAL CARD GAME, IN EDO'S YU-GI-OH! PC GAME, YOU ARE
LIMITED TO A FORTY (40) CARD DECK; NO MORE, NO LESS. YOUR DECK
*MUST* CONTAIN EXACTLY FORTY (40) CARDS.

To add cards to your deck, cycle through your collection (or use
the search function) until you reach the card you want. Then, if
you have less than forty cards in your deck, clicking the "Add"
button will put a copy into your deck.

Be careful when creating your deck during the earlier legs of the
game. When you start out, the number of identical copies of
cards that you can include in your deck are limited. However,
the limit increases as you play the game.

In addition, certain cards are "restricted" from being used in
decks; in other words, there is a pre-set limit to the number of
identical copies of certain cards that you can use in decks.
Click the "Restricted?" button to see a list of the cards that
are restricted for use in the current version.

Removing a card from your deck is simple: click on the
appropriate card from the list on the left side of the menu, then
click the "Remove" button. The card will be removed from the
deck, and added back to your collection.

To "lock" the changes made to your deck, click the appropriate
"Save:Deck" button at the bottom of the screen. You can save up
to three decks for use during the game. Please note that even
though you may click these "Save" buttons, the game will not keep
the changes if you should load your game again. If you wish to
permanently keep the changes, you must Save your game in the
Duelist Status menu.

If you wish to load a particular deck, click the "Load:Deck"
button at the bottom of the screen.

Finally, "Exit" closes the Deck Menu and takes you back to the
Duelist Status Menu.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 10.0 STARTING A DUEL \__________________

After clicking a Stage button on the Main Map, you will be taken
to the area of that Stage. Cycle through the opponents in that
stage, and when you find a Duelist that you wish to confront,
click "Duel."

However, dueling isn't the only thing you can do. You can offer
to trade cards with your opponent. Not all opponents will want
to trade.

If you wish to go back to the Main Map, click the "Decline"
button, then "To Map" button.

      ________________________________________
_____/ 11.0 THE DUEL \__________________

Dueling is the meat and potatoes of this game. After initiating
a challenge, you will be given the option of which of your decks
you will use during the duel.

After selecting your deck, the first player will be randomly
determined by a game of rock-paper-scissors. Choose which of
rock, paper, or scissors that you will use, and your opponent's
choice will be compared with your own. The winner will go first.
In the case of a tie, rock-paper-scissors will continue until a
winner is determined.

----------| The Duel Screen

The Duel Screen is somewhat large. As an immediate test, if you
can't see the button called "Go to ____ Phase" in the lower-right
of the screen, the resolution on your computer is set too low.
You must increase the resolution of your Windows to be able to
play the game properly.

To the left of the screen, from top to bottom, are your
Opponent's Life Points, the Field card, followed by Your Life
Points.

In the center of the screen is the actual dueling area. Your
opponent's side of the Field is to the top of the screen, while
yours is toward the bottom. Between the Field are two text
boxes. The top one gives a list of the cards in your hand, and
the bottom one your current phase, along with some effects of
cards that you are playing.

You will also notice a number of grey boxes that are right in
front of the Monster Slots. This gives the statistic of the
Monster that is currently in that slot, depending on its mode.
If the Monster is in attack mode, it will list an "A," along with
its current attack strength. If in defense mode, it will show
"D" and its current defense strength. If face-down, question
marks will be shown instead of a number.

----------| Dueling Commands

This manual does not show you how to play the Duel Monsters game
itself; please consult the various rule books and guides around
the Internet for instructions on how the game is played. The
following are the basic commands of how to play the cards.

.....CHANGING PHASES OF A TURN

In order to progress from phase to phase, you must click the
Phase Button at the bottom right of the screen. Right above this
button, you can see which phase you are currently in. The Phase
button will change slightly, depending on which phase you are in.
For example, if you are currently in the "Draw Phase," the Phase
button will say "Go to Standby Phase." Clicking the button at
that time will take you to the Standby Phase.

.....DISPLAYING THE CARD DETAILS

If you have a card on the Field, you can see its details by
right-clicking on the picture of the card. Select the "Display"
option from the pop-up menu, and the data of the card will be
displayed. Click the "Close" button to remove the display data.
If you choose to display the details of a Monster, when the data
is shown to you, it will include any effects that have modified
its statistics, such as Equipment cards and other lasting
effects. You are free to view cards of your own that are face-
down, but not your opponent's face-down cards.

If you wish to see the data of a card in your hand, simply right-
click the large picture to the right of the screen.

.....CHANGING THE MODE OF A MONSTER

If you have a Monster on the Field and you wish to change its
mode, right-click on the picture of the Monster. A pop-up menu
will appear. Click the "Change Mode" option, and the Monster
will change its mode: attack to defense, and defense to attack.
If the Monster is currently in face-down defense mode and you
choose to change its mode, it will be Reverse Summoned into face-
up attack mode.

.....PLAYING A MONSTER FROM YOUR HAND

If you wish to play a Monster from your hand, cycle through your
hand with the "<<" and ">>" buttons. When you reach the Monster
that you wish to summon, click the "Summon In Attack Mode" or
"Summon In Defense Mode" buttons.

If the Monster is level 5 or higher, sacrifices will be required.
After clicking the button to denote which mode that the Monster
will be summoned in, it will ask you to sacrifice a certain
number of Monsters.

To sacrifice Monsters for these high-level summons, click the
pictures of the Monsters on the Field that you wish to sacrifice,
one by one. You will be given one last chance to back out.
After confirmation, the Monsters you have chosen to sacrifice
will be removed from the Field (placed in their owners'
Cemeteries), and the Monster you selected from your hand will be
summoned.

.....PLAYING A MAGIC CARD

Cycle through your hand until you find the Magic card you wish to
play. Click the "Activate Card" button, and the card will be
activated.

Some card effects will require a target, either yours or your
opponent's. The game will ask you to designate a target, which
you accomplish by clicking on the picture of the Monster.

.....SETTING A MAGIC OR TRAP CARD

Cycle through the cards in your hand until you reach either a
Magic or Trap card. Click the "Set Card" button to Set that card
in your Magic/Trap Zone.

.....USING A SET MAGIC OR TRAP CARD

If you have a Set card in your Magic/Trap Zone, you can click on
it to use its effect.

.....ATTACKING WITH A MONSTER

You can attack with Monsters during the Battle Phase. During the
Battle Phase, simply click on the Monster that you wish to be the
attacker. If your opponent has a Monster on the Field, you will
then be prompted to select the target of the attack. If your
opponent has no Monsters on the Field, the attacker will assault
your opponent directly.

----------| Duel Statistics

At the bottom of the Duel Screen is a button called "Duel
Statistics." Clicking this button will give you a menu, which
depicts data about the game: number of cards in hand, remaining
cards in deck, number of cards in the Cemetery, and total turns
played. If you wish to view either player's Cemetery, click on
the "Discard Count" label.

_____/ 12.0 AFTERWORD \__________________

There are many bugs in this game. In fact, almost too many to
count. You aren't going to get a perfect, 100% authentic game
with every option that you could ever want, and not have to pay
anything for it.

This means that there WILL be harrowing moments when you are
playing the game when it will (a) totally crash, and/or (b) not
allow you to do something that you know you should be able to do.

Since this program is poorly programmed in the first place, some
of the bugs will have to be toughed-out until fixed. Please be
advised that there ARE some bugs that will NOT be corrected.
This is because some of the bugs are so ingrained into the
program itself that it will take a complete re-write to get it
running efficiently.

_____/ 13.0 TROUBLESHOOTING \__________________

Please see the README.TXT file and EDOPCFAQ.TXT file for
troubleshooting information.

Failing that, please consult through the posts in the PC Game
section of the message board. Check THOROUGHLY. There is a very
large three (nine or more pages worth) in the PC Game section of
the message board, and answers MANY questions about how to get
the game running. Read through the WHOLE thread to find a
variety of answers to problems.

If you are still having problems, then e-mail me directly with
the problem. However, if it's been addressed in the message
board section, I cannot answer your question.
