----------------------------------------------------------------- ED'S << X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER >> FILE 2.0 Written by Ed Hrzic ----------------------------------------------------------------- Just what is this file? It's a bunch of notes and information that I have found during my times playing the game, and through various posts on the 'net. It's not very long, it's not very informative, and it's not very good, but I thought I'd give it a shot. ==========UPDATES FROM 1.0: - All of the endings are listed - Some new comments and speculations Thanks to the individuals who wrote on with their comments and information. I'd write your names here, but I sorta accidentally deleted that messages before getting the names... ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------INFORMATION: This information is based upon questions that I have seen on the 'net, or overheard while playing the game. Q: Does Blanka appear in the game? A: As a playable character, no, he does not. He has a cameo appearance in the "Death Valley" stage, sitting by the fire. Beast sometimes appears in his place. Q: What does Rogue's kiss absorb? A: Rogue takes one attack from the target (either through a normal kiss, or at the end of her X-Move). More often than not, it's a projectile that she takes. However, it is humorous to see Rogue pull off a Spinning Pile Driver on the one she took it from. The only exception to this is that when she kisses Akuma, she can also do his "Raging Demon" Super Combo (Jab, Jab, F, Short, Fierce), a slow to execute, but unblockable attack. This absorption only lasts until the end of the match, or you tag-out, whichever comes first. Q: Are there any hidden characters? A: It's really unknown at this time. The only real "hidden" character is Akuma, though all you have to do is go to the top selection bar, and press up to choose him. You can play as SF Alpha Chun-Li by holding down start, and pressing either a punch or kick button. There are various characters in the "Apocalypse Now" stage, imprisoned within glass tubes. It is possible to shatter these tubes (though I rightly do not know how). Among the people that I have seen are: Psylocke, Dan, and Sakura. However, no one that I watch play the game sits still long enough for me to see the rest... I would like to see how a tag-team match would turn out if Apocalypse was playable... Q: Is XMvSF coming to any home systems? A: It was recently released that it's going to the Saturn. It looks as though the PSX will not get the game, do to its RAM being inferior to the Saturn's. As a PSX owner, I was dismayed, but there MAY be some hope in the future. Go out and buy MSH for the PS while you wait. The Saturn version will be released with a ROM upgrade, I assume to accomodate the extras that the game needs. ----------CHARACTER TEAM-UPS: The following are some of the most common team-ups that you will find while battling against the computer, with one X-Man and one Street Fighter. Bison/Magneto Cammy/Wolverine Charlie/Storm Chun Li/Rogue Dhalsim/Sabertooth Ken/Gambit Ryu/Cyclops Zangief/Juggernaut Other matchups are: Akuma/Magneto Bison/Cammy Cammy/Rogue The most prominent team-up that you will most-likely see people play most is Ryu/Cyclops. Various individuals wonder "Why?". There are several reasons. Though it is arguable that Cyclops is probably the most-used character. 1) Ryu and Cyclops are very much alike, with "Dragon Punches", "Fireballs", and their Supers. So, not much adjustment has to be made to play with these two. As well, these two are the most balanced in their abilities of speed and strength. Their attacks are very useful. 2) Ryu and Cyclops' Combined Super is a very intimidating prospect. 3) Cyclops' normal Optic Blast is very useful against projectile throwers. Since his is a "beam" and not a "ball", a player simply has to fire an Optic Blast. It will cut through the projectile, and most likely nail the person on the other side. The first team that I played with (and still do when I'm not trying to go for an ending) is Ryu/Rogue. Ryu is the well balanced character, and Rogue's absorption is an intriguing way to get more special abilities. Besides, Rogue is my favorite X- Men character. :) ----------ENDINGS, i.e. SPOILERS: These the endings for the characters in XMvSF. It should be very apparent at HOW to get the endings for the characters: just simply destroy Apocalypse with the character you wish to get the ending for. What is surprisingly good about the endings is that it usually has the interaction between a member of the X-Men and a member of the Street Fighter crew. Some endings are very comical; some are not. These endings are based upon my own words for that ending. If you want the real words, go finish the game by yourself. AKUMA. Wolverine finds that Akuma knows something about his past. But Akuma won't give up the information without a fight... BISON. Bison's power is too much for Magneto to handle. Now that Bison has taken over the world, he sets his sights even further in the cosmos... CAMMY. Cammy's memory disappears after the last battle, and is approached by The Hand. Psylocke in turn saves Cammy. She then joins up with her squad to fight evil. CHARLIE. He is captured by Shadaloo, subjected to torture, and dies. Guile's story begins here. CHUN LI. Professor X invites Chun Li to study with the X-Men, and she accepts. (One of the most humorous endings. Archangel makes the comment: "Gee! You're as cute as Jean!" ...and pay attention to Beast, who is observing Li's rear...) CYCLOPS. Battling alongside the Street Fighters, Cyclops realizes in his heart that peace with mutant can only exist with help from the humans. DHALSIM. Dhalsim realizes that the tournament was a dream. GAMBIT. Rogue contemplates what it would be like to be human. Gabmit says he likes her just the way she is. JUGGERNAUT. Jug gloats over his victory, putting down they Hulk during his speech to Apocalypse. KEN. Ken's son just beat the stuffing out of his dad while playing "X-Men vs. Street Fighter" on their video game system. MAGNETO. After destroying Bison, he takes up Bison's three followers. ROGUE. Bison offers to make Rogue a human, but she declines, knowing that she would never be human through her. She asks Chun Li, "What's it like being normal?" Chun Li responds, "Normal? What do you mean? I can throw fireballs. What's normal about that?" RYU. Once again, Ryu is in the battle for nothing but the fight. Cyclops tries to stop him, but Ryu has other plans... SABERTOOTH. Sabertooth and Birdie have "taken care of" all of the fighters (all SF characters laying on the ground)...minus one: Saber continues his life-long assault on the one they call Wolverine... STORM. After freeing all of the fighters imprisoned in the tubes, Storm must contend with an assault by Shuma-Gorath. WOLVERINE. Wolverine comments to Jubilee about how much of an honorable fighter Ryu is. ZANGIEF. Zengief teams up with Colossus to take down one Omega Red who is terrorizing Russia. ----------REVIEW: Over all, XMvSF is a good game. Who couldn't resist fighting the tag-team big-baddies of Magneto and Bison with your favorite SF and XM character? THROWS. On a lower note, throws seem to do too much damage in this game. I have not been the victim to losing by many of them, but looking at the ratio of damage while others play, it seems to be just a little too much. Yes, there are "Tech Hits" to leap out of them. Yes, I consider a fifth of my Vitality bar too much damage. I guess that I shouldn't been saying that throws do too much damage...though the problem is that you take damage not only from being thrown, but after hitting the ground too! I little more realistic, but, well...you get the idea. COMBOS. The Combos of some of the characters also seem to be a bit too much. Not all of them take an incredible amount of Vitality off, but there is no real way to counter the combo when you're being subjected to it. The combo system just seems a little "under-done." I mean this in saying that precautions weren't taken to rule- out the possibility of Infinite Combos (which several characters have -- Wolvie among them). Now that is what I call CHEESY to the maximum expression of the word. And again, I have not been the victim to them, but from ANY standpoint, the combos are just, well, too much. APOCALYPSE. The final boss is somewhat of a push-over, but that's not the beauty of this game. It comes from the tag-team match-ups between players, and taking their choice of fighters, and beating each other senseless. There is a pet-peeve that I have about some people who play a certain way. I like to call them "Tag-Hitters". These individuals know how to play the game to a certain extent, but use a cheesy attack method. When you're vulnerable, they will "Tag-Out," smacking you with the other character's "intro" attack. I have yet to fight these types, but I see them quite often. ----------SPECULATIONS: TIME LINE. While playing the game, I have wondered, "Just when in the Street Fighter time-line does this game occur?" Frankly, I am at a loss for a concrete answer. As Charlie's and Cammy's endings appear, this must indicate that it occurs before "Super Street Fighter II: Turbo". However, in Ken's ending, Ken's son appears, and Eliza's voice is "heard", so we can assume that Ken is married at this point. Ken doesn't seem to be the type to have a kid out of wed-lock, but anything's possible. I would say that it is safe to assume that it occurs between "Street Fighter Alpha 2" and "Super Street Fighter II: Turbo". But then, I'm sure that everyone figured that out. Actually, XMvsSF is set in a "what-if" universe, so I believe that this game will never be considered part of SF. CHARACTERS. For some of the characters, I simply have to say "Why?" Certain characters were never really popular in SF2A, so why did that reappear? Personally, I would have rather had Psylocke or Sakura in the game instead of Dhalsim or Cammy. This is all just a matter of preference, however. And how would Psylocke's and Sakura's endings turn out if they were in the game, along with some others? Let's take a look at how I think they might be... SAKURA. Since she would essentially beat Ryu (again if we use her SF2A ending), the now-older Sakura might take up with one of the X-Men to continue her training. Perhaps Wolverine takes to her, like he did with Kitty (see the comics, if you don't know). PSYLOCKE. As she sees that Bison's power is too much, she makes it her quest to destroy it once and for all. And during then, she would meet another person set on halting Bison...Rose. DAN. After winning, he returns to his dojo. And waiting to learn some new fighting styles is the one they call Juggernaut. (Dan: Don't do any flips, Cain, or we'll have to replace the floor...AGAIN.) SEQUEL?. From the reviews and attention that this game is getting, it looks as though a sequel is a definite possibility. If Capcom follows the chain of Marvel games as they did before, "X-Men vs. Marvel Super Heroes" will probably appear soon. On a hopeful note, I'd very much like to play a Ryu/Iron Man (hmmm... Devouring Dragon Wave Punch with a Proton Cannon...) or a Ryu/Cap (D.D.W.P with a Final Justice...) team. However, if Rogue's in the next one, she'll take precedence over Ryu in my book any day. COMICS?. Hmmm...with the arrival of the SF characters in the X- Men universe, could a comic book be on the horizon? Or even the SF characters making an appearing in the X-Men animated series? ...probably not. It's nice the hope...and dream... and... -----------------------------------------------------------------
